Catch the Spirit!

Make a Donation Today and Give the Gift of Time to Families in Need.

By Sharon Wynn

Sharon here! I would just like to share that the Spirit of a Child Foundation is a growing voice for our most vulnerable citizens — children. The foundation strongly believes that children are life’s most precious gifts and that their childhood should be filled with joy, laughter, and a future filled with possibilities. The root to a healthy child is to nurture his or her inner spirit with time, presence, gentle encouragement, and plenty of love. Through our funding, programs, and partnerships, we focus on issues that government programs do not currently or adequately address.

Each year the foundation conducts the Spirit of a Child Parent-Child Project, a nature retreat for selected families to participate in activities that will help bring the families closer together through the gift of nature. This year the foundation will be taking less fortunate families from Urban Promise in Camden, New Jersey, and Operation Homefront Tristate, which serves military families in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, to the NorthBay Adventure Camp in Elk Neck State Park, Maryland, from Friday, July 26, 2013, to Sunday, July 28, 2013.

At NorthBay, 10 families, one parent and one child aged 7-14, and two adult chaperones will investigate and learn about the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay wetlands, which includes access to a multitude of hiking trails within Elk Neck State Park. They will also experience the highest ropes course in Maryland, a newly-constructed low ropes course, 500-foot zip lines over the Chesapeake Bay, an indoor and outdoor rock climbing wall, a bouldering wall, game room, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, beach volleyball and an 18-hole disk golf course. In addition, the Spirit of a Child Foundation is sponsoring a country music concert on Saturday night!

A generous donation of any kind to the Spirit of a Child Foundation will help continue our efforts to help families in need and support our mission — “We Help Families Grow Stronger.”
